The backstory of the making of the video (took 20 full length unedited takes) reminds me of something a professor (Drew Beattie) once said as a tactic to making a sincere (art) mark...what he called "1000times spontaneous". A sort of, if at first you don't succeed moment.
Have been in a life energy funk lately and was just thinking this morning about the title of this video post. Feels as if I was giving myself the cue "Ok, go (already)?! Self-pity is so nauseating, tiresome. Passivity, worse. So I finally gave it up a few days ago, and started back into studio (life/art). I'll have to remember to bring my digicam tomorrow to take some shots...and maybe even attempt to post some words.
The premise behind 1000x spontaneous is that you can make a mark with integrity with the right attitude, even if you don't get it the first time around. (And that's ok, cuz we all can't be supergeniuses.) It's just about approaching the action of mark-making anew, with the same curiosity, excitement, vigor or discpline even if it takes you 1000x to remake that same mark and also being able to let go of the frustration from not having made the right mark the other 999 tries. Goes hand in hand with the On Death essay I posted.
That was the last comment that I read before I walked away from the computer for the weekend. I kept smiling about it. But, I also went an just changed my avatar. Comb over indeed.
I hope to add these thoughts up in the next week. ritual, repetititon, 1000x, etc. I might be picking your brain soon.

I love these guys. Or, at least, I love their videos. Really. Only, I can't hum one of their songs yet.
